can't launch the game (verify cache files)

Everytime I try to start tf2, It tells me to verify the game cache files.
it get's to 100% and does nothing. It remains stuck there.

when I try to defrag it, the defragment is stuck on Internal data defragment 0%, and clusters 0/.

anyway to fix this?

When it gets to 100%, go have a snack break or something, it takes time, nothing is wrong.

Unfortunately, this.

Steam lies about the percent done frequently; it really is working.

The button to close the window doesn't lie, though.
If it's lit, it really actually is done for real this time.

you could go to your steam apps folder (C:\Steam\steamapps) locate a file called "source 2007 shared materials.gcf", delete this file (you have to close steam prior to this) and restart Steam, it will redownload the file (I personally make a backup of the redownloaded file so that I can copy/paste whenever I get the error again) and start TF2 again.

I get this "error" alot with TF2 and this does the trick every single time.
It's faster if you backup the file once downloaded again else you have to download 1 Gig every time.

You can actually check if its done by task manager. If its not done yet by checking memory usage in process tab. If it still going up it still downloading something.
