Can rift be linked to steam?

I downloaded Rift from the official website to try out the trail a few days ago and now I'm thinking of getting the offer on steam. I'm wondering if I can link the game to steam w/o downloading the game again and can I still use the character I created in the trial? Thx

No I don't think it's possible, I have the boxed copy and tried the add the cd-key to steam and it wouldn't accept it. You can however add the steam cd-key to your existing rift account, but you have to call their support line to add it.

Yeah when I called tech support they said it would add the steam content, I've yet to get in though... Launcher crashed while installing the 4GB patch...

You can. Your account on Steam and your account on Rift are two independent variables, and if you obtain a CD-key from Steam, then you can use that key on your Rift account and continue playing your characters, but with the extra bonuses.
