How does itemtest work?

A friend of mind said something about itemtest, which allows you to use any item in the game. How so, and will this get me VaC?

You won't get banned, if that's what you're asking.

It's just something for people to see the hats and/or try their own custom models for items

Make a new server with the map "itemtest", open developer console, type in itemtest.

Considering valve made this, how the heck could it be vac bannable..?

You have to start a server, go to the map itemtest, enter "itemtest" in the console.

itemtest is a map that has a built in testing feature.

1. Load up the map

2. Open the Developer's Console with "~" and enter the command "itemtest"

3. You are taken to a UI which allows you to test any hat, weapon, and misc. It also allows you to substitute the model of any existing item with a custom model, the map's true purpose.

It's built into the game. You won't get VAC'd

This.

But better safe than sorry, I guess.

Oh, cool! So I can even use exclusive items like the Golden Wrench?

I think I might just fool around with this in Offline Practice mode.

I don't think the GW's effect works, however

I can't figure out how to set styles on things in itemtest. I'm starting to think it's not possible.

It's not. You have to manually edit the files or something.

Anyways, itemtest is borked to hell. All-class items don't show up and there's no double miscs. I wish they'd fix it.

itemtest is only for testing model appearances, the actual stats of weapons don't generally work unless the weapon is super unique (like the Hunstman or the Flaregun)

It should be noted that this is ITEMtest and not HATtest as there are lots of issues with testing hats, miscs, unusual effects. I can't even test the top notch with map stamps effect but since this isn't HATtest, I digress.

Go to Options, then look for the Advanced button, then enable developer console. Then, Press the ~ (tilde) key next to 1 and above TAB. Then, enter the command "itemtest" in the itemtest map without quotes. This doesn't require sv_cheats set to 1 and when you enter the itemtest command, it takes you to a screen where you can test hats/weapons you made, and try out other existing items, but they will be just like reskins, so they won't have anything special. You get the default loadout, test 1 weapon, 1 hat, and 2 miscs at a time.
