Steam Animated Avatars

Hello,

What does everyone think of Steam Community animated Gifs as avatars?

I like the idea because the average 5 second animated gif is 10mb, and it could count as Steam Cloud Space, so it wouldnt fill up the server. and another idea is to cap how long the Animated Gif can be, EG. 5-10seconds. and people can still use images so it wouldn't be a problem with people who like pictures to those who want gifs as an avatar...

What is your opinion on Animated gifs, if Valve added that into the community?

No.

-Many of them at once could slow computers
-Very annoying
-Could lead to a whole kind of inappropriate content

I can't think of anything worse then to log into steam, open the friends list and seeing the top 30 people all with different .gifs all jumping up and down and wiggling at me.

It's also going to cause issues with games like TF2, DODs etc - you cant have a scoreboard of 32 people all jumping about, so they'd have to be still image, which means you're stuck with the first frame of the animation.

In theory i'd love it - i know exactly which ones i would choose. In practice, i think it'd set off some sort of fit in my brain.

This.

I get a headache just thinking about browsing through the Store or my Library with a lot of unnecessary animated avatars moving around everywhere.

How so? A still image is enough to contain something inappropriate.

I agree completely. Animated Avatars should never be allowed on Steam.

Absolutely, positively 100%, big fat no! pokedex2536 stated the reasons why not quite well, and saved my time for writing them.

Fixed.

I wouldn't be surprise of the ammount of animated hello.jpg.

Could be cool, but ANYWAY, VALVe cannot offer a good compression to still image so i can't imagine about the Display Picture.

I'm for animated avatars. People who love annoying other people can do it with or without animated avatars aswell.
And as for inaproriate content, just shut up and accept that other people have other tastes.
