Steam games to be region locked?

It seems Square-Enix has decided to make all Retail PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution region locked: http://support.eu.square-enix.com/fa...t4363djgb80jn3

That means for example you can't buy a UK Version in Retail and activate it on some EU account.

Is this new Valve policy? Or just the publishers?

Why?

Publishers decide it, there are many region locked games.

This is the kind of thing Valve needs to block.

Not all retail PC versions of DE:HR are locked. Only UK and Russia.

Hasn't this always been the case? At least in Valve games.

Huh? UK=EU, always have been, always will be. Seriously, why do people always separate these?

Maybe because in the "real EU" they use Euros, while in the UK it's still pounds.

So it gives the impression that they are separate.

Many other European countries don't use euros, like Sweden or Poland...

But my point still stands. There has never been region locking inside Europe and this won't be an exception unless something really messed up is going on.

Hrmm? I don't understand? If you buy it on Steam it's going to be the EU Version anyway. I don't quite understand the complaint?

The UK is not in the Eurozone.

Note: It says

Languages - English
Release Region - Outside of UK
Steam Account Region - EU, but NOT UK, Russia or Poland

Languages - FIGS*
Release Region - Outside of UK
Steam Account Region - EU, but NOT UK, Russia or Poland

NOT THIS:

Languages - FIGS and English
Release Region - Outside of UK
Steam Account Region - EU, but NOT UK, Russia or Poland

And pay the premium 49.99e (*45e preordered atm), as opposed to getting it from UK webstores for 32e shipped?

I haven't bought a single game locally in ages, it has been exclusively UK or US.

Why the hell would Valve block it? They advertise it as one of Steamworks features

Why could I buy Fallout New Vegas UK version (retail) and activate it on an Austrian account?

According to SE, this isn't possible anymore.

I'm pretty sure that SE has nothing to do with Fallout New Vegas.
