Game crashes on start up

I hit launch and it instantly crashes.

Win 7, 64bit.

Wow, the game ran fine with me just a while ago today, now I'm trying to play it again and it crashes on startup. :S

Also running Windows 7 64-bit.

I just bought this because it was the daily deal, and have the same thing. It is the same error that many others are seeing with Mass Effect in this thread http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1925261

Both games use the Unreal 3 Engine, so it's possible this is a factor in both issues. I do, however, have several other Unreal 3 games that run fine; Mass Effect 2, Borderlands, Singularity, Bioshock to name a few which I know are currently running fine.

First thing to do is verify the game files.

Next, it's a known issue, dual core CPU's will not run this game very well. Single core or quads work fine. You can try and turn off one core in Task Manager, but that doesn't always work either.

BTW, My specs:
Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Phenom II 940 quad
EVGA GTX470 SSC
4Gb G Skill RAM

Game runs super fine for me.

Verifying game cache found no issues. The game was just downloaded, so I didn't expect it to. I've tried many compatibility mode options with this and Mass Effect. Others in the ME thread had reported success with running as administrator or uninstalling Windows 7's service pack 1. I've seen more than one thread claiming issues with ME after a windows update, but none listed a specific update or KB#.

If it is part of SP1 that breaks these games, it's possible that the breaking update was installed on my PC before the service pack was released. My system was fully up to date when the SP was released, so quite a few of its included updates were already installed.

I do have a dual core CPU, but it had no issues running Mass Effect with Windows XP. I've only had 7 for a few months, and have not tried to play ME in that time, so I don't know if it would have worked at some point. Setting affinity in Task Manager is not a viable option, as the games crash immediately on running, and the affinity setting is not persistent between instances of the exe.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
4GB (4x1GB) DDR2
Sapphire HD4870 1GB (tried Catalyst 11.5 and 11.6)

hi!

same problem here. the game does'nt even start. the process 'ffow.exe' starts and chrashes a few seconds afterwards. it does'nt even show me an intro/menu or something, my pc stays on desktop.
what i've tried so far:

o checking local data for errors
o defragmenting game data
o redownloading the game
o launching game as admin
o launching game in compatibility mode (xp and vista)

but nothing helped

All of us have Win7 64bit and as I see, different graph cards, CPUs, RAM, it is not a problem with a component...
For any reason I don't know at all, the ".exe" doesn't work for some people.

Steam please, hurry up, need solution

Literally just tried to play a taster of the single player before work, well that was the thought anyway,

Anyone know WHY it actually crashes on startup? it shows im In Game for like 10 seconds and then stops, i hoping they fix this, i know it was £2.50 but i would quite like to actually play the game

I doubt seriously that there will be another update for this game. Neither THQ or KAOS has cared for years now, and KAOS was shut down by THQ anyways.

Steam itself doesn't have the ability or legal rights to fix any game, all they do is sell them and update them. It's just a storefront.
