i heard there was a new you don't know jack and bought it as soon as i had the chance.
maybe i should've waited. the game crashes at start up. i'm running windows 7 64-bit. 12gb of ram. intel core i7 920. ati radeon hd 5770. i don't think it's my hardware. i just ran all the updates for windows and restarted my machine but still no luck. now i'm seeing there isn't xbox controller support and no online multiplayer? i feel cheated. how do i go about getting my money back for this? |

Most likely you're experiencing the same error that I am, which involved DirectX. I too have Win7x64.
If you launched the game itself via the executable (not via the Steam interface): C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\you don't know jack\bin\win\JackGame.exe You'd probably get a small error window box saying something about d3dx9_43.dll missing or not being found. I found several articles which referenced the game requiring a DirectX update to be ran first on Call of Duty and other games, so I downloaded the web installer for DirectX and ran it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en After running the installer, DirectX installed some optional components. I was able to run the game just fine after the installer completed and closed. Hope this helps your problem. |

Crashed since the Begining/ HELP PLease
I bought this game for the PC about 1 week after it came out on console, I have not been able to play the damn thing since I got it because it goes to the first Page and then locks up. I have to shut it down in the Task Manager to get my system back up. I have all the updates for my system including Direct X and still nothing. I have tried to launch the executable files but it still hangs up. Help Please, I would like to play this game.

If I try that I get a error message from steam saying to turn off compatibility mode for steam.exe even though I turned it on for YDKJ's exe...

No dice...
If I try that DX installer, it just says that I have a newer version, doesn't change anything, and the game still does not work... does the game really break with the latest version of Direct X?
Do I need to uninstall all graphics software and start from scratch? That hardly seems worth it... |

I had the exact same problem. I recently installed the game from steam but I get to the main screen and it just sits there! I tried the DX Installer but it says I already had the latest version. I downloaded the dll and moved that to the Steam bin folder for the game and still had the same error. Restarted Steam and then my computer and same error. Just this morning I got it working! The difference was I had turned off my headphones and was using the speakers. When I open the sound menu (right click the speaker icon on the taskbar and select 'sound') set my headphones as the default, the problem re-appeared. When I select the speakers as my default, You Don't Know Jack Trivia works! Go figure....

I was not able to resolve the hang on startup through any graphics, compatibility settings. But I did get the game to work when I, of all things, disabled my G35 Gamer's Headset.
Audio conflicts. Haven't seen those in a while. |

Okay I tried unplugging my headphones and it didn't work, but I finally tried unplugging my Klipsch Promedia 2.1's from my soundcard (X-fi Xtreme audio PCI-e) and it worked.... but as soon as I get past the title screen I can plug back in and everything works fine.
I would imagine that this is a easy fix so it really goes to show how half-***ed they did the game... and what awful support, I can't seem to find a way to contact them and the game has been out plenty long enough for them to update it if they had any intention to. I just know to never purchase anything that Jellyvision works on ever again. I mean the game should be an awesome party game and have random order to answers etc. but its a linear 2 player game. Lame. |
