Lightbulb Possible to move games in the steamapp/common folder to another disk?

I've build a gaming pc and I'm about to to buy some steam games.

I have a 64gb SSD, so it's only good enough for OS + 1 or 2 games.

So for example if I have 5 games in my steam account, is it possible to move the 5 games from the steamapps/common folder to another harddrive. And if I want to play a game just copy the game folder from the harddrive back to the steamapps/common folder on the SSD.

Will doing this break Steam or anything?

I know people say SSD's only help with level loading times and stuff, but I play a lot of open world games eg. Crysis Just Cause II, GTA IV, and having a SSD really helps with the texture loading.

thanks for the help guys.

The only real way of doing this is by following the unoffical guide outlined here.

I could, but then all that empty space on my SSD will go to waste.

If you are asking if you could move folders off of your SSD and then back on when you want to play them, then yes you can do that, just cut the game folder from steamapps/common onto where ever, and then copy it back when you want to use it. I would try it with one game at a time though, to make sure. Steam is very weird about copying, it constantly thinks you are trying to steal things and won't hesitate to make you feel like a criminal if it even suspects as much.

Guys, OP is August 13, 2010. Sgasper is the only recent one.

Yes it will work with Win7. 32 or 64bit it doesn't matter, as long as your drives are formatted for NTFS.
