Question Where does Borderlands save games to?

Hello. I wanted to backup my saved characters in Borderlands to an external drive. However I am not sure where the game saves your character and save game data. If anyone could direct me the right way I would appreciate it.

You can FORCE it to save into Borderlands itself which can really help if you switch between operating systems. -nohomedir is a good launch option, which I have

I was just wondering, when you copy a save file, does it contain the game progression?? I mean the last level/chapter/boss you finished??

I would like to copy my character but I would also like to save the last place I was on the storyline, so I can continue the storyline on a different computer, thanks!

The save file contains both the character (exp, items, etc.) and the character's progress at the time of the last save point.

Yes, that will work fine. But future readers be aware that the save "slot" is saved in the file itself, so if you want to make a copy of your first save, save0001.sav and you copy and rename it to save0002.sav, when you open up your second save it will overwrite the first at the first checkpoint you come to, because it still believes it's the save for save slot #1.

If you want to make a copy of the same save on one computer, you need to use Willow Tree# to change the save number.

My Saved Games are not showing up, and each time I enter the game, I need to start over. Any ideas?

Check to make sure the properties on the "SaveData" folder is not "Read-only"

I can't find it in My Documents or Steam. Would that folder be anywhere else?

No. That's precisely where the folder must be. If you don't have the folder there, then that explains why you're not seeing saved games. I suggest that you reinstall the game.
