Do you have MSI laptop ?
I have a MSI GT683R laptop and have not been able to get this game to launch because of the HKSHIP.EXE error. I have tried just about everything listed here with no luck. Steam passed it off to Square-Enix and I have a ticket open with them but have heard nothing for a week now.

I7-2630QM
Nvidia GTX560M 1.5GB GDDR5
16GB DDR3
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, this is still not fixed with the 1.5 patch for me, but they're aware it's still broken.

To be honest, I'm quite fed up~

My friend initially gifted this game to me. After Installation and everything I could access the game and got into the menu quite quickly. At first I told my friend I thought this game was extremely polished for the fast loading time from the brand label screen which usually takes a while dependent on how much memory is used.

I pressed new game and loading screen freezes during the loading process.
Alt-del out~ retried and after reinstalling and everything it worked as I could access the chasing screen and play until I got my own apartment etc. Saved and exited the game. Next day, I tried to load the game and it froze and crashed stating that hkship.exe was not responding.

-Since then nothing has been working and trust me I've done everything! AND everything.

My specs and drivers are ALL up to date:

DX version 11
Specs wise I know my laptop can play it!
i3-370M with Ati Radeon 5650 1GB
4GB Ram
500GB HDD
Amd Driver is beta driver 12.7

Things I've attempted:
- Reinstalling the game (5X now)
- clearing ALL registry entries
- altered settings on my AMD CCC
- Altered settings in the display page. (Benchmark mode also freezes)
- ummm what else? tried to steam update the drivers~ (ineffective)
- Changed HKship.exe's affinity and priorities ( changing this causes the game to be extremely unstable)
- Set HKship to run in admin mode~
-Compatibility to win xp/7/vista etc
-gotten a friend who knows comps in and out to help fix this problem and still nothing :S

installed 1.5 patch today thinking I might be able to play it, but after attempting various times. It still hasn't worked.

I've pretty much given up~ I'm extremely sure it's not the drivers or anything hardware related that people have that's the problem. I've seen specs that are much higher then mine having the same exact problem

Anyway I just wanted to post this so the devs and admins understand this situation from the user point of view. I've been waiting 2 weeks now~ still can't play this awesome game.

I second this except I have not even made it to the menu yet!

Thought I'd have another go at the mission I'm trying to complete after the new patch. Five minutes in (just driving to the mission itself) and then the game crashes again with this error.

Disappointing

I was getting this crash all the time with an NVIDIA GTX560Ti and then I used MSI Afterburner to change the Core Clock speed from 900Mhz to 850Mhz and it's totally fixed the error with no change in performance. I left the memory clock the same.

I get the same error, but ONLY when my xbox controller is plugged in. It happens right before the first combat in the game. I hate using keyboard/mouse for this game, but it's the only way I can play it apparently.

I encounter the hkship.exe failure when I use CrossFire with 2x 7970, but not when crossfire is disabled.

The latest update didn't affect the issue at all for me.

It's a shame that a game with such great graphics can't utilize the full extent of my hardware.

Happened to me just now AFTER exiting from game to main menu. I had just finished the LOOSE ENDS mission, clicked ESC, then clicked QUIT TO MAIN MENU. The game faded to black, and then stayed that way for a while until i had to ctrl alt delete to see the error message. Never once had a crash since i bought the game almost 3 weeks ago.
