the recipe to revamp a game, is to make it F2P, why don't turn this into f2p? wouldn't it be a huge success? there are so many ridiculous fps f2p in steam that a big fat game like quake wars would own them all!

I played this hardcore when it was released. Hundreds of hours. And this after putting massive time into Wolf ET. But I stopped playing years ago because:
-Not enough maps (you'd think SD would have learned from Wolf ET!). I'm usually not one to advocate for DLC, but in this case there simply wasn't enough content to play for long periods. It didn't help some of the maps kinda sucked, with terrible chokepoints. -30fps cap. This looks terrible on modern machines, sadly. -No persistence. I'm not huge on the COD-model of unlocking stuff constantly in MP, but let's face it - people do expect some persistence in their online FPS games now. -Learning curve. For those who never played Wolf ET before it must have been bewildering... Too bad, because its really an extremely innovative form of FPS. -Weapons lacking punch. The vehicle gameplay rocked, but on-foot shooting feels/sounds terrible in comparison to most good shooters. I had high hopes for some of this stuff getting fixed by Brink, but thank god I never bought that... Hope SD gets back on track soon. As for F2P ET Quake Wars, its an awesome idea but Activision just doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥. |

your wrong on this, you can unlock your fps to your hearts desire.. example from my config file: seta com_unlockfps "1" seta com_showFPS "1" seta com_unlock_maxFPS "120" <--- i can go even higher my FPS is locked at 120 all game long.. game runs smooth and looks great.. even on Normal settings.. true only in a limited sense. just cuz the renderer is showing whatever FPS, doesn't mean the game/server is actually "tick"ing at that rate. my showFPS says between 200-300 all day, but it was established early on (on old ETQW forums), and b****ed about quite heavily, that the character (etc.) anims themselves were only created to be 30FPS, which is you can pump out killer framerates all day and the game still looks, runs, and feels all herky-jerky and crappy, i.e. 30FPS. get in a vehicle, or scope ur weapon, and a similar slow-down effect is immediately noticeable. again, showfps says "high!", but 30fps, 60, 80+, 150+, etc. all have somewhat of a distinctive look and "feel", and this is NOT 150+. It's not even 60. :/ ------ the "persistence" was ur rank and stats, which Activision kindly screwed us all out of when they fired SD or whatever, and decided it was too costly for them to keep the ETQW stats page up. :/ as for unlocking certain things in a game, most are not that hard, but the maps/campaigns themselves are over so quick, it's like: what's the point of unlocks? ------ agree w/ earlier poster, the sounds are terrible. TERRIBLE! (the main AR and Laser-AR, mainly.) when I first heard those sounds in the beta, I was like "beta sounds, no big whoop". When I heard them in the real game, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. at least they got that squared away with BRINK! ![]() as for weapon "feel", I was just playing earlier today, and I don't know if it's because half the community is not from US and has these ungodly >150ms pings, but the gun-play feels terrible also. any modern bullet shooter u want to name, blows it away. but of course there are a few who really seem to have it figured out, and will drop you in an unbelievably short time, leaving u going "WTF how even?" (and I'm speaking as someone who by and large rules FPS games. ETQW just feels weird and old anymore, tho. the only reason I go back to it is the flying is cool )rocket launchers are way OP against vehicles (esp. planes) and the "rifle grenade" equivalent which used to be one of the most useful weapons in Wolf ET, is now such a joke no one even uses it. ----- Sry, I don't think splash damage will ever get it together. They let outside influences affect them too much. u either go big or go home, not try to hedge ur bets with something in the middle, hoping to please all parties. they did it w/ ETQW in the sense of trying to make it "WolfET meets BF2", and they did it with brink in the sense of trying to make it "console meets PC". But hey, I'll keep buying their commercially failed games for $5.... :/ ----- BTW I thought F2P already exists but it was some chinese-only thing. i think SD had the right intentions for a very good objective based online FPS.. but, the engine, imo was lacking.. i know it was the modified idtech4.. it just couldnt handle what SD created.. lag/poor netcode have been the biggest complaints since beta.. never to be resolved.. nor will it ever..
sad really, great game and concept- Stink, i mean Brink never came close to what ETQW had to offer.. Brink is just horrible.. and after stink, i mean Brink i will never buy a SD game at launch.. i'll wait for a demo if no Beta is offered.. |

This game was not bad, just not in modern conception. Too much old school, I guess. But it was good. Too keep this game alive, they coud just add some innovations, wich is not very hard to make. At first: new engine (I guess it`s a hardest part) to make more interactive environment, improve phisics and graphics, Second: Blood (at least) and gore. Because THIS IS QUAKE!!111 Third: Some new weapons, maps, vehicles, game modes (maybe) and other content. At forth: Make a killing process itsealf a bit easier. Not every player likes to shoot the whole clip into somone at a long range, or somtimes even at close range.
And a last one: Single player campaign. Not like just another Quake, but maybe a bit like Vietcong 1 or Star Wars: Republic Comando? Or SW: Battlefront? Or Supreme Comander? I guess something combined would be nice! I loved how they turned multyplayer in some kind of coop for whole team, and I want to see that in a realy modern game so much. Also, this game was one of the most balanced MP I`ve ever played. It defenitly deserves a second part! Last edited by RRRAGE: 10-16-2012 at 04:46 AM. |

I enjoyed the demo gameplay a lot but there were two things preventing me from getting the game: I at that time playing Battlefield with friends; and secondly I just couldn't really relate to the Quake universe (even though I have played some of the older Quake games).
