Stop constantly updating Steam!

It seems I'm always updating something to do with Steam and it takes forever when I'm trying to get on and play. Usually I have no problem with Steam, but lately and especially since August, I've had nothing but drama with this and it really s me that I constantly have to nurse the damn thing ot get any joy.It constantly gets stuck when updating and I have an awesome link, so know B/W is not the issue. Why can't we choose to update instead of it being forced on us.
Pommyman - jarateed off and over this.

Are you having troubles with the Steam platform itself or games updating?

Steam's had 2 client updates in 2 months, bringing pretty useful features/bug fixes, and all it requires is a click of the Restart button on the windows it presents you with.

What exactly is the problem here?

the steam update message is what you see if steam has problems connecting.
check the news page if there was an update , if not you know steam is not connecting wel on your PC.
